Karapiro Crew

We pretty much wore out a set of tires traveling between Auckland and Karapiro this Spring. Two of our clients were associated with the recent World Rowing Champs which meant numerous visit both during the build-up and during the event itself.

Our first trips were to document the orientation of the Karapiro Crew, made up of hundreds of volunteers who helped the event run so smoothly, and who were sponsored by Mighty River Power. Mighty River Power have a long and close association with the lake, operating not only the Karapiro Dam and power station but also 7 power stations up river to Lake Taupo, and we also visited the site to record some of the set-up for champs including the erection of the largest temporary grandstand ever installed in NZ, construction of the new racing facilities, and MRP's Annual Public Meeting which was held in October.

And then we back during the event itself to document Coca-Cola Amatil's Green Team in action. The country’s largest non-alcoholic beverage bottler, Coca-Cola Amatil was a key partner of Karapiro 2010 for the World Rowing Championships introducing a unique and innovative public place recycling program.

This included the set up of 150 specially designed recycling bins alongside waste bins from the park and ride to the lakeside, flags identifying the bin clusters, banners, big screen animation and a volunteer force of 60+ ‘Green Team’ members, actively encouraging people to recycle.

The resulting video is being used to promote the concept for other events around NZ and the world.
