Stake-Out
"MacIntyre Undercover" meets Michael Moore
Hidden cameras, investigative journalism, and a crusading frontman ready to confront wrong-doing wherever he finds it – that’s Stake-Out the new show on TV3 which launched in an expose special on "Inside New Zealand" in April 2005.
The show introduces Martyn "Bomber" Bradbury (former Channel Z DJ and now editor of "Rip it Up" magazine) in a completely new role.
"We wanted to do something other television current affairs shows weren’t doing," Bomber explains.
"And we wanted to use the technology to push the investigative envelope for younger viewers. If we can expose illegal practices, dodgy dealings or shameful behaviour then we’re going to go for it as hard as we can."
"And then I confront the perpetrators red-handed."
Screentime Producer John Keir describes Bomber as an exciting new face for New Zealand television.
"He’s unlike every other current affairs reporter on screen. He has enormous screen presence. He’s one of the sharpest minds in the business, and he’s great at bowling up to someone, looking them straight in the eye, and saying ‘hey, bud, we snapped ya – what do you think you were doing?’"
"In many ways Bomber is our kiwi Michael Moore," Keir says.
"He’s not afraid to take a controversial subject and push a point of view if he thinks he’s right, He’s not intimidated by anyone. He’s perfect for a show like "Stake-Out" and a TV3 audience looking for new kinds of storytelling."
The first one-hour "special" investigated a range of scams within the immigrant community – marriage for money deals and fake driver licences.
The full Stake-Out series is coming soon to TV3.
